Accommodation

We are the only VisitScotland Four Star graded hostels in Stromness, on the Orkney Mainland.

Tthe Hamnavoe provides accommodation for up to 13 people in six rooms.

The largest room sleeps four, while the smallest is a single.

All rooms are fitted with pine bunk beds with the exception of one twin and the single room, which have standard single beds, all beds are fitted with full-size single mattresses.

All rooms are equipped with a wash-hand basin with shower/bathroom facilities on each floor.

We have just refurbished our single room and our lower bathroom - this has now become a full wet-room shower room, with new sanitary ware. Sorry for those guests who used to like the bath - it has now gone!

Also new for 2011 are Silentnight miracoil special luxury quilted mattresses.  These  8” luxury quilted mattress are covered in a luxurious damask fabric. The fibre fillings offer further levels of comfort, so we hope that our customers will have an even better sleeping experience at our hostel from 2011 onwards.

All towels and bed linen are provided free of charge. Extra bath towels are available on request for a charge of £2

Kitchen

The light and airy kitchen is well appointed with two cookers, microwave, double fridge, fridge freezer, toasters, kettle and sandwich toaster. 

A large dining table and chairs allow you to enjoy your meals whilst taking in the fantastic views of the stromness harbour and marina.

Lounge

Should you wish to take time out and relax, the lounge comes complete with comfortable seating, television, freeview, video player and stereo and you will find the sideboard stocked with books, cards and games.

Laundry room

On the same floor as the kitchen and dining room you will also find a small laundry room.  Here you can make use of our coin operated washing machine and tumble drier should you require it. 

A clothes airer, iron and ironing board are also available.

Other

• As well as a payphone, the hostel has recently upgraded its services to include free wi-fi internet connection.
• Entry to the hostel is through a number coded lock and residents have their own room keys. There is no curfew so residents are free to come and go as they please.
• Check in time is from 2pm and check out is no later than 10am on day of departure.
• Left luggage facilities are available at the nearby Stromness Travel Centre.
• For those of you who are taking their own vehicle, there is a free long stay car park immediately in front of the hostel.
• We have available on request a travel cot and high chair should you require but advance notice is required.
